ILC is committed to providing appropriate and competent language skills assessments for hospitals, health care agencies, community organizations and other social service providers.

These skills assessments support the organizations own language access infrastructure and help comply with government mandates. We help organizations identify their own internal capacities and provide the training necessary to address any needs including: language skills assessments, translation, interpretation, language instruction or courses in translation and interpretation.

Assessing the language skills of staff members will ensure that individuals eligible for social services receive them from qualified employees, thus avoiding misunderstandings. ILC provides different types of assessments. Below are the different tools.

Initial Interpretation and Sight Translation Assessment or Employment Screening

Designed to assist clients when creating a database of employees available for selecting new personnel, determining training needs, or assigning job related responsibilities requiring interpretation and sight translation skills.

Initial Translation Assessment

Designed to assist clients when creating a database of employees available for translation assignments as needed, determining training needs, or assigning job related responsibilities requiring translation skills.

Performance Assessment

This test is to evaluate the individual's performance, skills improvement, ethics and professionalism; it's administered periodically (once or twice a year) and consists of an interview and a paper or computer test addressing standards and practice.

Official Recognition Test - Translation and/or Interpretation

This is a knowledge and skills based assessment. Candidates for ILC's Official Recognition Test must take an interpretation and/or translation course and take a comprehensive written and oral test in addition to intensive practice. Passing score is 90%.

Language instruction for Health Care Providers

ILC offers programs that help health-care providers learn a new language.  The medical vocabulary taught in these classes includes words commonly heard in conversation in a hospital, clinic, doctor's office, home care agency, etc.
